How does an electric motor operated valve (MOV) actuator work?
My question mainly pertains to Electric Motor-driven Motor Operated Valve Actuators.
The motor drives a gear operator on the valve and is limited in the degree to which it operates by a set of limit switches so it doesn't over run or over torqued the shaft. This arrangement typically also has another set of limit switches that indicate the open or closed position so the person controlling the valve will know its position. This type of operator is typically used on ball, butterfly or plug valves but can be used on gate valves.

Oil Furnace Valve Actuator?
I have an oil furnace which heats water used in a 2-zone radiant heat system. Recently, a well-intentioned friend cut one of my two thermostat wires. I'm replacing the entire system in 2 months and just want to make the two zones work as one until then. I've already wired the two thermostats in parallel and wanted more information on the electric valve actuators which control hot water flow.
Each of mine has four wires and I am looking for a simple diagram so that I can wire them together.

I need an electric/pneumatic motor or actuator to turn a 6" stainless steel ball valve.?
Currently it is turned manually by a lever. The lever travels 90 degrees. It is important for the valve to stay closed if the system fails(in the manual configuration it stays closed by itself). Maintain the ability to close the valve manually if the system fails is important. Although getting rid of the lever is not out of the question, if necessary to mount the solution. Electric or pneumatic operation would be ideal. Closing quickly is important, while opening quickly is desirable but not required. The application is mobile so the size and weight of the solution is a factor.
So far i have looked at simple electric motors, I don't believe it possible to use these without considerable parts for torque and speed conversion. Also I have considered screw type actuators, Getting the proper type of motion does not seems possible without designing a new valve.

I am amazed that you simply haven't done a web search for your answer. Just look at the choices from one search. You are not the first person to have the requirements stated. Many ball valve manufacturers have access to actuators for their valves as well.
Need cheap electric solenoid valve (for air)?
Im trying to build my own air powered actuators for a robotic arm. But to control them ill need some solenoid valves of some sort. I don't know the exact pressure yet, but ill use around 50-100 psi. I keep searching and don't really see to many cheap ones. They can be reall cheap after all this is just an experiment all it needs to do is open and close pritty fast.
not sure what you consider real cheap, but Mcmaster Carr has some crappy ones for like 25 bucks www.mcmaster.com page 434ish I know where to get them for like 10 bucks too, but we get a discount there as a manufacturing company. for personal use, a McMaster or Grainger is probably going to be the best bet.
