Privacy Policy

Last updated: 28 October 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how LinkUp ("LinkUp", "we", "us") collects, uses, shares and protects personal information when you use the Linkup website, apps and related services (the "Service"), and the choices and rights you have. It forms part of our Terms of Service.

By using the Service you acknowledge this Policy. Where the law requires your consent (for example for sensitive information), we ask for it separately, and you can withdraw it at any time.

1. Who is responsible for your data

LinkUp is the controller of your personal information (the "operator" under Russian and Armenian law). You can contact us in the app (photo menu, "Tell us what fits") or through the Safety page. Where the law requires us to appoint a representative or data protection officer, we will publish their details here.

2. What we collect

  • Account information: email address, encrypted password, or the identifier from a sign-in provider such as Google.
  • Profile information you choose to add: name, date of birth and age, gender, the people you'd like to meet, city, bio, interests, intentions, languages, photos, prompts and preferences.
  • Sensitive information you choose to share: details that can reveal your sexual orientation, relationship preferences or beliefs. You decide whether to share them, and you can remove them at any time.
  • Content: messages, story posts and replies, photos, invitations, reports and feedback.
  • Mood and plans: your daily check-in (mood, plans, what you'd like to do) and availability.
  • Location: the city you set, and an approximate location derived from it. We do not collect precise GPS location unless a feature clearly asks for it and you agree.
  • Activity: likes, passes, matches, connections, online status (if you leave it on), blocks and the features you use.
  • Device and technical data: IP address, browser and device type, language, time zone, cookies or similar storage, crash logs and security signals.
  • Payment information: purchases are handled by our payment partner, which processes card details. We receive only limited details such as the plan, status and country.
  • Information from others: reports about you from other members and information from sign-in providers you connect.

3. Why we use it and our legal bases

  • To provide the Service, including your account, profile, suggestions, messaging, stories and ideas (performance of our contract with you).
  • To suggest matches, connections, people on your wavelength and activities, based on your interests, mood, plans, languages and city (contract and legitimate interests).
  • To power optional AI features such as reply ideas and activity ideas (contract; you can turn the AI coach off).
  • To keep members safe: detecting fake accounts, scams, spam and abuse, reviewing reports, enforcing our rules and preventing minors from using the Service (legitimate interests and legal obligations).
  • To process payments and prevent payment fraud (contract and legal obligations).
  • To communicate with you about your account, security and changes to our terms (contract and legitimate interests).
  • To improve, secure and fix the Service using aggregated or de-identified data where possible (legitimate interests).
  • To comply with the law, respond to lawful requests and protect our rights and the rights of others (legal obligations and legitimate interests).
  • To process sensitive information you choose to include in your profile (your explicit consent, which you can withdraw by removing it).

4. Automated suggestions

We use automated methods to rank and suggest profiles, connections and activities. These suggestions do not produce legal or similarly significant effects; you always decide whom to contact. Our safety systems may automatically flag content or accounts for review, and decisions to remove an account are reviewed by a person when you appeal.

5. What other members can see

Your profile is visible to other members according to your privacy settings. We show your age and city, not your date of birth, email or exact address. Messages are visible to the people you send them to; story posts are visible to the audience you choose. Anything you share with another member may be saved or shared by them, and we cannot control that, so share carefully.

6. Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.

  • Service providers that host and run the Service for us under contract, such as database and storage hosting, website hosting, email delivery and AI processing providers. They may use your information only to provide services to us.
  • Our payment partner, which acts as merchant of record and processes payments under its own privacy policy.
  • Activity and listing sources (for example film, book, recipe and map services). We send only what is needed to find ideas, such as a city, a language or a topic, never your name or contact details.
  • Other members, as described above.
  • Authorities, courts and others when we believe in good faith that disclosure is required by law or needed to protect someone's safety, prevent fraud or abuse, or enforce our terms.
  • A buyer or successor if LinkUp is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets, subject to this Policy.

7. International transfers

Our providers may process information in countries other than yours, including the United States and the European Union. Where the law requires, we use safeguards such as the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses or the UK addendum, and we follow local rules on cross-border transfers and data localisation where they apply to us.

8. How long we keep it

  • Account and profile data: while your account is active. When you delete your account, we delete or anonymise it within a reasonable period, normally 30 days, except as below.
  • Stories: they disappear from view after 24 hours and are deleted from storage afterwards.
  • Messages: they stay visible to the other person until the conversation is removed or an account is deleted.
  • Safety records (reports, bans and related evidence): kept for as long as needed to protect the community and prevent banned users from returning, and as the law allows.
  • Records we must keep by law, such as payment and tax records, or information needed for legal claims: for the period the law requires.

9. Security

We use technical and organisational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit, access controls and database row-level security. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security. If a breach affects you, we will notify you and the authorities where the law requires.

10. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access your information, correct it, delete it, restrict or object to its use, receive a copy in a portable format, withdraw consent, and not be discriminated against for exercising your rights. You can edit or delete most information in Preferences, pause your profile, turn off your online status and the AI coach, and delete your account. For other requests, contact us. We may need to verify your identity, and we respond within the time the law requires.

  • EU, EEA and UK: you can also complain to your local data protection authority.
  • California and other US states: you have the right to know, delete, correct and opt out of sale or sharing (we do not sell or share), and to limit the use of sensitive information. An authorised agent may make a request for you.
  • Russia: you have the rights given by Federal Law No. 152-FZ, including to withdraw consent and to appeal to Roskomnadzor.
  • Armenia: you have the rights given by the Law on Protection of Personal Data, including to appeal to the Personal Data Protection Agency.

11. Adults only

The Service is only for people aged 18 or over. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 18. If we learn that a minor has an account, we remove it. If you believe a minor is using the Service, report it immediately.

12. Cookies and local storage

We use cookies and similar browser storage that are needed to keep you signed in, remember your language and settings, and protect the Service. We do not use advertising cookies. Where the law requires consent for other storage, we will ask first.

13. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy. If a change is material, we will tell you in the app or by email before it takes effect. The date at the top shows when it was last updated.

14. Contact

For privacy questions or requests, contact us in the app (photo menu, "Tell us what fits") or through the Safety page. The English version of this Policy prevails if there is any difference with a translation, except where the law requires otherwise.
